A savings account is a basic type of financial product that allows you to deposit your money and typically earn a modest amount of interest. An individual or a pensioner of National Provident and Pension Fund (NPPF) can open a savings account.

Pension accounts are offered to private companies, business firms, NGO etc for opening a pension account for their employees.

Normal Savings Account

All Bhutanese nationals above the age of 15 years can open and operate a savings deposit account.

In some special circumstances, firms/corporations/government agencies are allowed to operate a saving account each.

  • Citizenship Identity card copy
  • Letter from the National Pension and Provident Fund (NPPF) office.
  • MOU between the company and BNB
  • Letter from the company to open Pension account
  • Duly filled in application form
  • Two passport size photographs of the employee
  • Citizenship Identity card copy of the employee

Pensioner Savings Account

The Pensioners account is opened by the pensioners of National Provident and Pension Fund (NPPF).  All Bhutanese Pension account holders can operate pensioners savings account.

Additionally, pension accounts are offered to private companies, business firms, NGO etc. for opening a pension account for their employees.

  • Used only for pension payment
  • Submit quarterly status report to NPPF
  • Used only for pension payment
  • Jointly operated by the authorized signatory of the company
  • No other transaction is allowed other than the pension payment
  • Offers higher interest rate than the regular savings account
  • Withdrawal and closure of account is allowed only on the written instruction of the company.

  • Letter from the employer in Bhutan

  • Such joint accounts can be operated on the following mode:

    • Anyone or Survivor
    • Any two or survivor
